Annie Andrews

Yes, I cried. I remember when she first started her campaign. I read about her agenda for healthcare. I remember thinking how nice it would be. But knowing first hand how white men in South Carolina so despised the idea of a woman president I seriously doubted Andrews would make it into office. She is talking about charging forward with various ideas for increasing health insurance various securities for the low income. The only thing that could be better is free healthcare. But I agree with her that Americans will never go for that. We could. And afterwards we would not want to go back. And it all would be in our own interest. But as Andrews is basically saying, this is the hand we are dealt with. Let’s make it more just.

And, she is a doctor. That could be great. Being a local I know too well how many bad doctors inseminate this area. Is she one of them? Just part of the culture? She is a pediatrician. To a TV blinded public she would be believed to a saint as a children’s doctor. But I know better. One’s profession in life does not a saint make. Still, as of right now. As of this moment. We can hope she is a good doctor. They do exist. And from my experience, it takes a good person, however imperfect, to be a good doctor. With that in mind it seems rational that if all that were the case, she would make an effort to do good things. Good policy. Good craftsmanship towards the proper goals. And projecting what it means to be good as is the vow of any leader.

So I cry in hope. But I know better.
