Note: Four terms for AOC, like FDR, might help the nation heal
I learned that there are rumors that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is planing on running for president in 2028. I am not a die hard AOC fanboy. Obviously, as a progressive I tend to agree with her on most issues, but my more strategic brain tells me she could and might end up proving herself to be not much different than establishment Democrats when and where it matters. That being said, if I approach an AOC presidency as an optimist, I would also be okay with her serving four terms. FDR served four terms under particularly extraordinary circumstances. Are we not also living under extraordinary circumstances?
I think it would make sense for congress to take extraordinary steps to approve her serving two additional terms. Find a way to exempt her from the 22nd Amendment. Please do not tell me that cannot be done. Congress has proven it can ultimately do what it wants. It would give the nation time to heal. Without a great allowance for a significant healing timeframe, we will never really progress. Even if AOC were to run in 2028 and even if she were to win and even if she were to win reelection, I do not think two terms will be significant enough to allow us to heal. I keep going back to where we need to be as a country to begin to educate our children and citizens the metre of the music of Violence Studies, so that might have the chance to make a real difference and progress towards a future that benefits everyone and in which everyone is safe. It makes sense to me that perhaps four terms under AOC might give us the stability to heal and grow.
We used to pretend that our country was one that looked to the future. Even some of the best science fiction tended to lean towards a perspective that our era was headed towards a better future. However, the drunkenness of post-WWII progress has long since been proven to be a myth. We are going to have to create that beginning towards the future on our own.
